Setting the new standard for sustainable aquaculture

Delivering salmon that is pure, fresh, and responsibly raised.

Alpine Farm

At Swiss Lachs, we raise Atlantic salmon with exceptional care, proving that truly healthy food comes from truly responsible aquaculture.

We are Switzerland’s first salmon farm and one of the most sustainable aquafarms in the world. For more than ten years, we have been raising pure Alpine salmon in the heart of the Swiss Alps, with precision and in harmony with nature. Our methods protect the environment, support healthy growth, and deliver pure, nutritious food you can trust.

Salmon Raised in Nature’s Purest Conditions

Our salmon grow in pure Alpine mountain water for nearly two years. Free from additives, antibiotics, hormones, and microplastics, they live as nature intended, swimming against a continuous current in calm, pristine conditions that mirror their life in the wild.

These controlled living conditions create a harmony between innovation and nature, ensuring the well-being of each fish while protecting the delicate balance of our environment.

Around the Clock Care for Perfect Quality

Our team lives close to the farm, watching over the fish day and night. Every oxygen level, temperature change, and water flow is monitored with care. If something needs attention, we are there immediately.

This constant presence keeps our salmon calm, healthy, and stress-free, and it shows in their texture, flavor, and vitality.

FARMING METHODS

The Conventional Approach

Open-Net Sea Farming

For decades, most farmed salmon has been raised in large mesh pens anchored in coastal waters – typically off Norway, Scotland, Chile and Canada. The fish live in nets that are open to the surrounding ocean.

A Closed Loop

Land-Based Recirculating Aquaculture

A recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) is, in essence, a closed loop. The fish live in indoor tanks, and the water continuously circulates through a sophisticated filtration system that removes waste, maintains oxygen, and keeps conditions stable.

Comparison: Open-Net Sea Farming vs. Land-Based RAS at Swiss Lachs

Open-Net Sea Farming Swiss Lachs Land-Based Recirculating Aquaculture
Water
Open-Net Sea Farming

Open to the surrounding ocean. Pollution, microplastics and algal blooms can pass through freely.

Parasites & disease
Open-Net Sea Farming

Sea lice are a constant challenge in open nets, often treated with chemicals.

Swiss Lachs

Our closed system keeps parasites out — no chemical treatments needed.

Antibiotics & hormones

Used as needed to manage outbreaks and growth.

Swiss Lachs

Zero antibiotics, hormones or chemical additives.

You Are What You Eat – And So Is the Fish

The quality of a salmon's flesh, its colour, its texture and its nutritional value all begin with what it eats. Swiss Lachs feeds its salmon with high-grade feed produced by BioMar A/S in Denmark – one of the most respected names in aquaculture nutrition.

CERTIFICATIONS

The feed carries some of the most demanding certifications in the industry:

  • ASC Feed Standard the Aquaculture Stewardship Council's recognised benchmark for responsibly sourced ingredients
  • Global G.A.P. with the non-GMO / Ohne Gentechnik add-on no genetically modified ingredients
  • BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) global standard for safety, sustainability and traceability
  • ISO 9001:2015 internationally recognised quality management
  • HALAL certified

Every batch is produced under a HACCP-based food safety system and tested for heavy metals, dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs, pesticides and other undesirable substances in line with EU regulations. Samples from every batch are stored for a full 12 months (24 months for fry feed), providing complete traceability if ever needed.

The feed is certified free from ethoxyquin and contains no added growth hormones, antibiotics or chemical growth promoters of any kind.

Purity you can taste

The way our salmon live shapes the way they taste. The crystal clear water and the serenity of their environment give them a clean, delicate flavor, naturally rich in omega 3 fatty acids, essential proteins, and vitamins.
